Best buffet restaurants in Auckland

For very big hungers you just can’t beat the good old all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.

Variety is the spice of life and you’ll find plenty of it at a buffet, where you’ll be able to try what you like and eat as much of it as you wish. Unless you’re Homer Simpson, of course, who was once turfed out of an all-you-can-eat buffet for eating too much.

These are some of the very best buffet restaurants in Auckland.

Fortuna Buffet Restaurant, SkyCity

You’ll be like a kid in a candy store, marvelling at all the good things to eat at Fortuna Buffet restaurant at SkyCity Auckland. Think seafood, fresh baked breads, Asian specialties, plenty of vegetarian options, rotisserie chickens, glazed champagne ham and more salads and desserts than you could possibly eat.

Acacia Restaurant & Garden Bar, Ellerslie

With a garden bar and a buffet to die for, Acacia in Ellerslie proves that a buffet dinner needn’t be unsophisticated. The dishes change regularly, featuring Asian-, French- and Italian-inspired cuisine. Check out the lovely garden bar.

The Terrace, SkyCity Grand Hotel

Speaking of sophistication… this five-star buffet restaurant boasts elegant al fresco dining in a serene courtyard in central Auckland. The Terrace is open for breakfast every day and features ham and spinach eggs benedict with chive hollandaise as well as vanilla pancakes with maple syrup in its hot selection.

Valentines, city-wide

Chances are when we say “buffet” you think Valentines. This nationwide chain of buffet restaurants is an oldie but a goody, with more than 100 dishes on offer from all around the world. You’ll find a Valentines restaurant in Henderson, Manukau, Pakuranga, North Shore and Mount Eden.

Buffet House, Browns Bay

For more than 20 years the Buffet House in Browns Bay has been a landmark Auckland buffet restaurant. Drop in for a buffet meal that includes barbecue steak, Chinese food, salads, ham on the bone and a wide range of desserts.

Happy Days Buffet Restaurant, Manukau

Another classic Auckland buffet restaurant, Happy Days in Manukau has a great selection of hot meals and salads – including ham, roast beef and pork, pizza and pasta. Its selection of desserts, too, is well worth checking out.

Secret Garden, Quay Street

Secret Garden on Auckland’s Princes Wharf has harbour views that are almost as good as its food – and we mean that in a good way. Enjoy a range of seafood, live cooking and Asian specialities. It’s not so secret now.

Gengys, Northcote

Anyone who hasn’t tried Mongolian barbecue really needs to do themselves a favour and drop by Gengys. This buffet restaurant is adored by meat lovers; vegetarians might want to give this one a miss and check out our guide to the best restaurants for vegetarians instead.
