The gluten intolerant among us often has difficulty finding places to dine without the extra added fuss. Here are a few top spots offering gluten free options across the country…


The Library Cafe & Function Centre, Onehunga, Auckland 

Library Cafe and Function Centre, in Onehunga Auckland, is one place where those with food allergies can eat, safe in the knowledge that their meal won’t harm them. For lactose-free, gluten-free, wheat-free, nut-free and vegetarian living, check out the fantastic range of breakfast and lunch options. 

Moxies, Palmerston North

Palmerston North’s Moxies cafe offers a separate Gluten Free Breakfast Menu and Lunch Menu. Offering everything a Gluten Free person would normally only ever dream of, the menu includes Bacon & Eggs on Toast, Eggs Benedict, Toasted sandwiches, BLAT, Steak Sandwich, various protein packed salads and fish and chips. There are dairy free options available upon request too.

Mexicali Fresh, Auckland (4 locations)

Feel like Mexican food? Most Mexican food is gluten free and the food that Mexicali Fresh provides is no exception. They prepare their meals from scratch and the menu includes taco salads, burritos, nachos and quesadillas. As they have a special menu for kids, they make it easy for parents who need to keep their children gluten free. They have four handy Auckland locations: Newmarket, Princes Wharf, Botany and K Road.


Pause Cafe, Putaruru

If you are close to Putaruru, be sure to check out Pause Café.  They offer a lovely selection of allergen-friendly foods that include gluten-free muffins, soups, salads, pies, cakes and frittatas. Their delicious menu changes regularly and is updated with daily specials.

Fish, Princes Wharf, Auckland CBD

As the name suggest, Fish, within the Hilton Hotel on Princes Wharf, offers a fantastic range of seafood meals. If you are gluten intolerant, let them know and they’ll cater to your needs.The head chef is Simon Gault’s protégé Shane Yardley and, whenever possible, they use organic and sustainable produce.

Constant Cravings, Epsom, Auckland

As a gluten-free person, do you constantly crave good tasty food, but have difficulty finding it?  Well, stop by Constant Cravings in Epsom, Auckland.  They have so many options to choose from that you might struggle to make a decision! With one bite this café will become a favourite with tasty savouries, gorgeous cakes, flavour-full muffins and so much more. 

Fatima’s, Ponsonby and Takapuna, Auckland 

Fatima’s in Ponsonby offer healthy Greek, Middle-Eastern and Turkish-style food.  If you are gluten intolerant, and feel like a great take-away meal, they are a good option as their chicken, lamb and pita bread are gluten free. They also don’t use peanuts in any of their cooking. They are also located in Takapuna

Ora Cafe, Te Aro, Wellington

Wellington’s Ora Café is any Gluten free, wheat free, dairy free and nut free person’s idea of Heaven, as they are completely 100% Gluten Free. The menu includes many tasty options including frittatas, cheesecake, muffins, cakes, shortbread and savouries. Great coffee too!

Sola Cafe, Thames

The Sola Café in Thames is dedicated to providing meals for those with vegetarian, gluten and wheat-free diets. The menu offers plenty of delicious warm and tasty lunch options including bagels, paninis, soup of the day, quinoa salads, and muffins of the day. Check them out when you’re next in the sunny Coromandel.

Revive, Auckland CBD (2 locations)

Keep your mind and your body healthy at Revive. Offering a fine selection of wheat free and vegetarian salads and meals. Their menu contains semi-organic products and they also cater for those on special low fat diets. Their juices are great too.They have two handy Auckland City Locations in Fort Street and Lorne Street. 

Grouchos Café, Auckland CBD

So your body can’t tolerate gluten; this doesn’t, however, mean you don’t have style. Grouchos Café, on Wellesley Street in Auckland’s Victoria Square, is a funky café with a retro 70’s theme. Their menu includes a delicious range of gluten-free salads, cakes, chicken wraps and pancakes and, whenever possible, they favour free-range, organic and fair-trade products.
