For the best part of 30 years Kings was a stalwart of deep south cuisine. They prepared and served only the freshest seafood, employed skilled chefs and were priced so competitively that they were the only real dining option in Invercargill. However, Kings is no longer the establishment they once were. Kings has undergone several renovations since I returned to my native invercargill in 2007, none of these changes were for the better. The new outside/inside decor does not represent what Kings always meant to me; hearty, rustic, large portions. Instead it reflects the neuvo cuisine direction in which they tried to head. Being so close to Bluff, one of New Zealands, and possibly the worlds, best fishing ports should mean that the fish should compare to anything I've eaten in Shimazu, Santorini, Port Canaveral or Porto de Vigo. This was not the case unfortunatley. People once travelled for miles to eat Kings seafood chowder, now its a tasteless mush of frozen shellfish pieces...quite a shame...

I ate at Kings today. It has reopened with new owners and a fresh new crew. Food was Fantastic and fresh. glad to have a seafood restaurant back in town that is rival to any seafood establishment world wide. I will Definatley be eating there again and again.
