YUM. If you love Indian food and are in the Mount or Tauranga you MUST try Smart India by Cinema 4. Friendly service, colourful interior decorations (I love colour!) and food that is generous and 'just right'. I used to work with the chef/owner (years ago) in another Indian restaurant so I knew the food would be good here. And it is. We dined in tonight and ordered a medium butter chicken but it was more like a mild - hardly spicy at all. We mentioned it to the chef afterwards and it seemed to be a mistake - other times it's been great. We know if it's not to your liking at first, Sunil will be happy to spice it up or mild it out for you - but we just dished it all out before checking the spiciness so couldn't get it changed. This has been considered in the rating I gave. My husband and I have been here maybe four times now and it's always great food. In other local Indian restaurants the butter chicken isn't very sweet and in others it's like syrup ( I have a sweet tooth but the syrupy butter chicken from a Rotorua restaurant was too much). At Smart India it is just right. And the naan bread we had tonight was super fresh, not rubbery or tough like they often go after a few minutes. Awesome stuff - the best Indian in Tauranga and the Mount. Eat here, then add your own review. xx
