  1. The Crows Nest - Whitby

I was another patron at the Crows Nest on the night mentioned below. After reading the review from Antonis I felt compelled to write my own review. As a newcomer to Whitby, and Wellington, I have been nothing but welcomed into the Crows Nest. The staff are friendly, welcoming and always treat their customers with nothing but respect. However on the night in question, Mr Martinis wore out his welcome and was asked to tone down his behaviour, on the request of other patrons; nothing that would not happen at any other respectful etablishment. The Crows Nest is a great little pub in the heart of Whitby, and I for one plan on becoming a regular.

I was there that night, and as far as im concerned this guy was a total idiot, He didnt even seem to know what code he was suporting and even the people he arrived with, ended up moving away from him though embrassment. Maybe he should stop using the drugs that he was on, as it does nothing but embarrass himself.

It was great reading the review from Mr Martinis as I have never experienced so much rubbish in one reading than I have had since I read that Noddy and Big Ears had been banned from schools etc many years ago. I am and have been a regular at the Crows Nest for some many years where we have unquestionably supported our own teams, our national teams, and welcomed supporters very warmly, especially where supporting someone other than the local or national team that are being televised. Firstly on the night in question when Mr Martinis came into the bar it was apparent that he had either consumed drinks and/ or other substances prior to his arrival. The reason I say this is that the first game that was being televised was the Hurricanes v The Blues. Mr Martinis constantly cheered and danced around the table yelling his support for the Phoenix. Now I know the Phoneix play in Wellington, wear yellow but hardly feel that they would like to be compared to the Hurricanes. The second game televised was the rugby league test between NZ and Australia. Again Mr Martinis must have been in another world as he was now cheering and yelling for the Warriors. Now this is considered very strange as not many normal people actually cheer for teams that are not playing in the game being televised. Mr Martinis was not told to keep quiet but in fact to be a bit more circumspect on who and what he was yelling and jumping up and down about given the teams he was cheering for were not playing. Mr Martinis then went round to shake hands and bow before all those in the bar, which annoyed some of the people in the bar, about 40% of whom were non regulars. Mr Martinis behaviour and obnoxiousness was even questioned by his own aquaintances who were very embarrassed by him and even went and sat elsewhere. Some of us locals are indeed quite pleased to here that Mr Martinis is not coming back to the pub as the bar would lose more customers from having someone as obnoxious as he was in the bar than what they would if he was not there. The Crows Nest Bar and Cafe is one of the best suburban bars around catering for a family/friendly environment where one and all is welcome to wine and dine in comfortable surroundings whilst being able to support the team of your choice in the sports bar. Mr Martinis was a complete asshole himself and not the other 25 odd people in the bar or the friendly and accommodating bar staff. Perhaps when Mr Martinis grows up and behaves in a normal manner then he would be more acceptably received that what his behaviour allowed on his last visit to the bar. Wayne Hodge
