We came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was pretty good. I had the lamb rack which was cooked nicely. the mushroom bread and butter pudding on the side was a little odd but all in all it was a nice meal. They had an acoustic guitar and lady singing which was nice in the background. Pretty kid friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

My friends and I went here a few weeks ago in February. I seriously wouldn't go again. The service was average, although the kitchen had a great part in this by not sending out things or not at the right time. None of our group of 7 really liked anything they had and we covered the menu from Tapas to steaks to sides. I recieved my steak which I ordered medium rare and it came out close to well done. Another friends steak was not great quality and had a lot of grissle. My sides I never recieved, I waited a bit and saw sides come out for my friends but not me. When I asked the waitress she said they were coming. So was Christmas. I mean how hard is it to make mashed potato?! It was very strange for my friend to recieve a serving of potato but I could'nt have a portion and beans also not a hard dish to make. I ended up finishing my steak and telling the waitress to cancel my sides with the kitchen and make sure I was not charged. The mushrooms my friend had I tried and they were chewy and strange. The prawns she also got she said seemed like they were frozen and were really not enjoyable. I like the outdoor ambiance and the cool tealight holders on the tables and thats where my compliments end.

Wow! We had a table of 16 for brunch ranging from 9 months to 60+ years. We found a park close by (free! not a bad effort for Auckland City) and our orders were taken promptly on arrival. Soon after, coffees arrived and were great. Nice and hot with enough kick to get you started first thing Saturday morning. The kids were entertained with crayons and an activity sheet that lasted though-out the whole meal. I ordered the mushrooms which were to die from. My father also ordered these, a great gluten free option. Other members of our party tried the zucchini fritters and eggs Benedict. The little ones were also happy with their choice. A great restaurant, well priced and fab location. I would definitely recommend for small or large parties!

Had an absolutely awesome night here. We wandered on in was greeted in a lovely friendly manner, despite it being a Saturday night & we hadn't booked we were very quickly seated and the staff couldn't have been more attentive to us all. Service was fantastic. Then the food came well between the 4 of us we absolutely tried it all lamb, steak, mixed grill & venison and everything was awesome, balanced & flavor filled, fresh, brilliantly presented our compliments were sent to the chef(s) and staff. The creme brulee was out of this world! Highly recommended to everyone since & would definitely go back to try all the other things we couldn't fit in that night.

Great spot, good wine list, good service, BUT the food was a disapointment. We had the Tapas, all 6 of them and a salad, not one of them was good, tasted like they had been sitting in a bain marie all night.."pub grub" was my partners comment

Dined here with a large group. The service was great as they helped re arrange the seating according to how we wanted although it was not really allowed usually. Love the staff we had that night, they were awesome and very reliable. As for the food, it was OK, my disappointment was the prawns, slightly overcooked and not much flavor to it. Want to go back and try a few other things, it is a bit pricey though. It was a good experience, looking forward to dining there again.

My husband and I decided to go for a couple of after work drinks and nibbles on friday down the new wynard quarter. We were greeted at the door by a friendly young bar waitress, she seated us at the bar until a table became available. We were pleased to find that even though she was flat out, she stil managed to talk us through the menu and recommend us a wine each from the very extentive wine list. We shared a few tapas between us that were delicious, however could have used a little less salt on the zuccini fritters. All in all a lovely evening and we shall return soon for the whole course meal.

We went for dinner with a group of 12 people. The menu system was not explained. I ordered a 250g steak and then found out I had to order sauce, veges on top of the $32.00. What I thought would be a $32.00 main turned into $46.00. A total rip off. Bearing in mind that the following week I had lunch with a friend work colleagues in a beautiful Takapuna eatery and had the same meal for $22.00 made me realize that Marvel Grill is one eatery not to recommend. In fact some overseas visitors dined at the Takapuna Marvel Grill and had the same experience as us. Not good.

We have now visited Marvel Grill 3x - twice for dinks and nibbles and once to eat. They have been extremely busy each time, however the staff have been polite and explained the menu in full when we dined in. Considering how busy the staff were they were friendly and acknowledged us. The only disappointment we had was the prawns were slightly overcooked. Otherwise a pleasant experience was had each time.

I have to say that as an Aucklander my family and I are all very anxious about the service guests to New Zealand are going to get come rugby world cup time. When you dine out in this day and age good food is not enough to keep guests happy. People are paying for service and an experience. What we took away from Marvel Grill last night was very disappointing. As we were seated, we were given tap water that tasted like it was straight out of a swimming pool and then thrown menus. There was no explanation to how the menu worked and was unclear to follow. It became apparent that someone should have gone through this as half of what was listed was unavailable. This is understandable but to place your order and then have the poor waitress come out not once, not twice but three times to say sorry we don't have that, was rather embarrassing for the poor girl. Entrees served, the chefs at least have it right in the kitchen. Mains arrive... entree dishes still not removed from the table with staff looking at us extremely confused, arm muscles shaking from the heavy plates as to where they should set our food down. It was not until we said two times that "you need to clear the table" before bringing out the next dish that our table was cleared and meals served. The food tasted great, the price was up there but some basic waiting etiquette would go a long way.
