Peter Gordon is going to open new fabulous establishment The Sugar Club on Level 53 of the Sky Tower in July. The Sugar Club has some fantastic history, with it being an iconic establishment in Wellington in the 1980s and then becoming extremely popular in the 90s in Notting Hill and Soho, London. Keep an eye out for more details coming soon.

Going by my experience at the ironically named Dine by Peter Gordon, one has to wonder whether his favourite bible story is the one in which Jesus fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fishes. After a 50 minute wait between ordering and receiving our mains, the amount of food on my plate (duck, allegedly) was so microscopically parsimonious I had to check my watch to make sure it wasn't still the 80s. The menu said the dish included Brussells Sprouts. I think there must have been a typo because I'm pretty sure the Brussells Sprout leaves scattered about the plate would have kept the whole sprout count well below singular, let alone plural. I do realise that the whole fusion thing is meant to be about flavours and quality beyond the reach of mere mortals, but you shouldn't have to take it as an article of faith that there is indeed some food on the plate. Besides which, they went for a fairly minimalist approach in those departments, too. My wife's meal, which she said tasted 'quite good', was room temperature. She would have sent it back, but by then it was 10 O'Clock, and we were not prepared to wait any longer to eat. The restaurant's only saving grace was our lovely (if somewhat embarrassed) waitress. On the bright side, I'd been trying to lose weight, and I did leave the restaurant feeling considerably lighter. As did my wallet.

Surpassed expectations again. They are serious about fine food and also love to dabble with the extraordinary. The tastes are amazing. Ok, it's not cheap, but then nor is the experience. Mind blowing. Lovely knowledgable staff and nice setting.
