Established in 1994, Oh Calcutta Restaurant has been the winner of a number of Restaurant awards. Most recently being METRO'S Top 50 Best Asian Restaurants in 2009 and Viva's Takeout Awards for 2008 - Best Indian voted by the New Zealand Herald (19th November 2008).

Over the years I learned that the essence of good Indian cooking revolves around the appropriate use of the aromatic spices.

The skill lies in subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance, rather than overwhelm the basic flavour of a particular dish.

Indian food relies on the balance of the spices in which it is cooked.

They say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, however I think with today's changing tastes, we should say "the proof of the curry is in the eating". You will realise the true impact of this phrase when you experience the delights from my eatery.

Not only is this an experience in taste, but also in culture and environment. From the moment you walk in, to the time you leave, you will be surrounded by the ambience of what India has to offer.

We will always experiment with our combination of traditional & balance.

There's no magic recipe, but we know what works hope that that you feel the same way

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is simple is to convey my passion for Indian cuisine in a way which gives you a perspective on our quest for perfect ingredients, technique, and a deep-seated desire to continue learning and evolving through old traditions and modern tastes.

There is a real thirst for home-style Indian cuisine outside of India; we know this because we have seen it and felt it. Our ethos demands that we not only satisfy this need, but that we work to ensure that this is done without compromising on the foundation of this cuisine, and the love of food, and feeding others.

Available from Tuesday to Friday, 11.30am until 5.00pm

I feel that Indian food is best experienced by sampling a little of your favourites.

It's about experimenting with food flavours and textures to achieve an overall enjoyable dining experience.

All TIFFIN platters are served with Tandoori Naan bread, a loose rocket salad and pure 100% Basmati rice
