  1. Lone Star Cafe & Bar - North Shore

Phoned to book a table 1 week before, turned up on Saturday nite for hubby's birthday dinner and was then told they don't take phone bookings, had to wait 20mins to be seated and was put in the worst spot ever, between a doorway and an entrance to the toilet. There were at least 6 screaming kids at 1 table behind us and no one telling them to be quiet it's a restaurant not McDonalds, couldn't hear the waitress she had to yell we ended up drinking the drinks we ordered and decided to leave. I went to pay and the till jammed so I had to wait another 10mins to pay they finally went upstairs to the bar to get my change so I could get the hell out of there. Never Ever again will I go to Lone Star!!!!

Third time to visit Lone Star.....and last. Have never had a good experience here, wife didn't want to go tonight but I talked her into giving them another chance. Wont live that one down. Sunday night, place wasn't busy. Had to wait for someone to seat us, no one to greet us when we arrived. We were then shown to a section that had no other diners and joked to the guy showing us to our table, not to forget us. Which they promptly did. We sent out a search party for a waiter after staring at each other for 15 minutes. Managed to get someone to come, placed order for drinks and meals at the same time as we had had well long enough to read the menu and were worried we might not see a waiter again. No water was offered for the table. First two meals came out, no sign of the third one. As meals that we did get were only luke warm, we decided to go ahead and eat. Lucky we did as the third meal came 20 minutes later, we were almost finished the first two. Not sure what took them so long to make a cheese Quesadilla (basically a cheese toasted sandwich). So very unimpressed. Btw, avoid the ribs, sickly sweet. Wish someone from Lone Star would actually go to the States and see how ribs are supposed to be prepared and served. The rack is served as one, not cut up and piled up like a tower from Lord of the Rings and shouldn't rival the dessert trolley for sweetness. And their famous coleslaw, please, were those pumpkin seeds? Get real and make proper coleslaw. The "fries", we they are just half potatoes....yuk. If you are going to be a US style restaurant, at least get a basic understanding of American food. Thats what we were looking for. So all in all, the service sucked, again, and the food sucked, again. Won't be back.

Very impressed with the service. We had a lovely evening, thank you very much! The food was brilliant, and even though it was late (due to understandable human error!) they more than made up for it, including a special birthday dessert for my father. Many thanks to all the staff at Lone Star Takapuna!
