  1. Live Fish Seafood Restaurant

Reading an earlier 2011 review on menus.co.nz tells me that the seafood platter is the same three years later: I ordered a 'seafood platter': quantity was fair (good for 2-3), but yes, I can confirm it was bland, and seemed to be the supermarket variety, partnered with one old and hard lemon that barely had any juice in it, all for $29! Also ordered fried rice and a veggie side and that tasted fine, even as a takeaway. But at $23-25+ each, I had hoped it would be a little bit more than what can be easily cooked at home. Perhaps they could have compensated the mediocrity through quantity, but that wasn't the case either. When I consider that I spent almost the exact amount in another North Wharf restaurant a week ago, yet the food and experience was clearly superior, this place felt very much a rip-off. I suggest folks might try any of the neighbouring restaurants instead of this. Maybe it's the fresh seafood they specialise in, but unfortunately, I don't think I'm willing to take another chance in this restaurant, especially after reading that they will improve a $29 dollar meal back in 2011. Clearly, they haven't. The servers were polite and attentive, though seemingly untrained, like they didn't know what to do in front of customers. The servers also did not take orders and waited for another 'senior' staff to do so. And this is where we waited quite a bit even though there weren't many customers at the time. I didn't mind this so much at the time, because it was a nice day, and I wasn't so hungry. But the waiting was very much outside 'comfortable' range that's usual in Auckland restaurants.

Came in on the evening before Lorde concert, warm welcoming from staff, ordered cocktails, my partner had the lychee martini & myself feijoa mojito. Great cocktails, highly recommend. We ordered beef with sweet mushroom sauce, diamond shells with black bean & a stir fried veges. was good. We finish off with a cheesecake surprisingly good for a Chinese restaurant. would return and will be telling friends about this great location

  3. Live Fish Seafood Restaurant

WE booked a table for three to celebrate my wife's birthday in October. Upon arriving, there was no-one to greet us and despite a few waitresses seeing us at the reception area, we were ignored. Eventually, another waitress asked if she could help us. I explained that we had booked a table for 3, and she found our booking in the book. We followed her into the dining area, where she abruptly stopped, and in Chinese was communicating with another waitress, who walked up to me to ask whether we had booked. She shuffled passed us and checked the book, to find our booking. We were told to wait, and a minute later asked to follow her, and shown our seats. Not a good start I thought. After a short while, we placed our orders, only to be told the oysters on the menu were not available, but they had pacific oysters. We ordered that as starters, and our son ordered prawns. The prawns arrived a few minutes later. Then 2 of the 3 main courses arrived. We asked for the oysters (our starter), which arrived 15 minutes later. Throughout the meal I asked 2 waitresses and the manager for our third meal (which was a vegetable), and kept being told "5 minutes". Eventually, just as we finished the other 2 courses, the third arrived. Despite that, the service was friendly at all times, and the food was out of this world. It did not come cheap though. I will go back there again, but it would be a far more pleasant night out if the running of the venue is brought up to standard.
