Owner Joanna Chen, her father and his creation Live Fish, have 7 lucky charms in their modest kitchen. Modest because of Mr. Chan's belief that with small things come fine art.

The home fashioned old styled black bean sauce has been in use since Mr Chan's first foray into the kitchen back in 1953 in Hong Kong and they still use the same spices as they did back then. Live Fish does not use MSG. Joanna's father cooked without any artificial flavouring in his early years, a tradition that is still respected in the Live Fish kitchen till today.

Call us today for reservations and enjoy the best seafood dishes and experience Chinese cuisine at its best.

Awful experience. Food took over 1 and a quarter hours to arrive - when it did - it did so in dribs and drabs - with my daughter mussels missing by mistake! Try gearing up your kitchen to deal with volume and train your staff! Second - a human hair in my wife's chili sauce! Replace by a bowl of tartar sauce - does not go well with chicken! My suggestion - hairnets in the kitchen....and jack up your service through training????? Quality of the 6 meals we got - very poor. Portions small, rice out of a packet I suspect. Solutyion - look at your menu selection. So after a frustrating and stressful 2 hours - with my daughters meal still nowhere to be seen I detailed our bad experience to the manager. His response 'Well mussels take longer to cook'. No apology or offer to reduce the bill - or compensate in some way for the worst dining experience of my and my other 6 guests lives! My constructive suggestion - hard one this ...but I guess performance management of the manager plus training in customer service? But then I think we might need to dig a littler deeper to get to the true causes of this....who did the hiring, menu selection, training? and what are the aims of this business?

First of all on behalf of Livefish we would like to apologise for your experience at our restaurant and we appreciate your comments which will only help us to improve our food and service. On this particular day (rygbu world cup season, we had a rush of tables wanting to have lunch at the same time, and some were large orders. The kitchen was unable to cope with the rush hence the delay and the accuracy details of the food. From this experience we have now added more experienced kitchen staff to cope with this sort of rush and duty manager has been trained how to effectively communicate with customers if there is a waiting time on their meals before actually seating any customers down. We had a serious discussion with the particular manager on duty of his unacceptable behaviour. Again we do apologise for this dining experience and we sincerely like you to come back in the near distant future. Email us on info@livefish.co.nz to let us organise a better dining experience for you and your party.

We had lunch here because it was the only restaurant not fully booked. The layout is good with lovely views over the harbour, unfortunately the food does not match. We ate the platter for 3 which has squid, scallops, chicken wings & spring rolls on it. The platter was ok, but for $28 it was expensive particularly as it seemed to be all the stuff you can get from the freezer at your local supermarket i.e. the typical squid rings from the frozen section. We waited about 45mins for some fried rice, which arrived luke warm and oily. We asked for a new portion which we waited at least 15mins for and then we were clearly presented with the return of the same plate but perhaps microwaved for 2mins! We sent it back again, now we had been there for an hour and a half waiting for our food... The other dish arrived fried fish of the day, it was ok but pretty bland. At least it was hot. After nearly 2 hours we cancelled the rice, paid the bill and walked out. We won't be going back.
