NZ Cuisine Artisan Awards 2011


Winners of the third annual Cuisine Artisan Awards were announced this week, and if you’re a food connoisseur you’ll want to know just want delights are tickling taste buds this year.

The 12 winning artisan products selected by Cuisine are as follows:

  •  Overall Winner: Havoc Prime Pork’s traditionally dry-cured Yorkshire black bacon.
  •  Runner Up: Heilala Vanilla’s pure and intense vanilla paste (Heilala vanilla beans are sun-dried in Tonga then shipped to Tauranga to be made into extract, paste or syrup).
  •  Addmore Products with a sparkling, super-refreshing elderflower rosé.
  •  J Friend and Co with an organic honey: ‘beechwood honeydew’.
  •  Clearwater’s Organic Dairy cream top yoghurt with a touch of clover honey
  •  Akaroa Salmon with their hot-smoked salmon.
  •  Dollop Puddings’ smooth-pouring vanilla bean custard for its luscious texture of crème anglaise.
  •  Ludbrook House for its slightly spicy, Northland-grown pickled limes.
  •  Orcona Chillies’ aromatic, flavoursome harissa paste.
  •  Piako Gourmet Yoghurt’s lime zest frozen yoghurt.
  •  Salumeria Fontana for its deliciously juicy Toulouse sausage.
  •  The Damson Collection’s damson jam.


All these outstanding products are artfully created by small businesses, handmade in the kitchen, and sold locally at farmer’s markets and local wholesalers.

Cuisine’s winning artisans will display their products at the Monteith’s CheeseFest event at Auckland’s Langham Hotel on the 2 March.
