Where To Eat in Mission Bay

There’s more to Mission Bay than just the beach. Ok so during the Summer months it’s awash with scantily clad women trying to get a tan and rugby-ball-carrying men out to enjoy the sun but still, once the sun goes down there are plenty of places other than the beach to enjoy.

Mission Bay’s main street is lined with great cafes, bars and restaurants and whether it’s Winter or Summer; fish and chips from The Fish Pot Café will put a smile on your face. You can dine in or take away and have a walk down the beach while munching on probably the best fish and chips that Auckland has to offer.

If it’s more of a sit down meal that you’re after then Mission Bay has tonnes to offer on this front. The Mecca Stonehouse is uniquely picturesque from the outside and the exterior’s old world vibe is matched by the décor on the interior. Choose from entrees such as Oysters or Seared Scallops and follow with delights like Lamb Shank or Seafood Spaghetti. And to finish, well they’re dessert menu reads like a sweet tooth’s dream! Or for the more savoury amongst us, try the cheeseboard – delicious!

Try a taste of Europe and head down to De Fontein Belgian Beer Café. In the Summer months their outdoor balcony overlooking the beach is great for people watching and when it gets a bit more chilly, move inside and warm yourself up with one of their many many Belgian beers on offer. They also have a great selection of food including mussels, oysters and lots of platters too, perfect for sharing!

To add a little spice to your trip to Mission Bay, pop into Ruan Thai on Tamaki Drive. Their menu is brief and to the point (but includes everything you need) – perfect if you’re any way indecisive! The portion sizes are generous, the staff are friendly and the service is prompt. All in all, great food and a great dining experience!
