Best bars for watching the All Blacks

If rugby is a religion in this country then going to the pub to watch the All Blacks play must be tantamount to a religious experience.

So fear not if you don’t have all the sports channels at home; grab your coat and head out the door to one of these great bars and pubs that will be showing all the All Blacks games, including the Bledisloe Cup and the Four Nations Rugby Championship.

Go the mighty All Blacks!

The Paddington, Parnell

The Paddington’s main bar boasts one big screen and six flat screen TVs, so you’ll never miss a second of the action. And if you want to make a really big night of it, The Paddington’s private “grandstand room” is available for hire, with tiered seating for up to 40 guests.

The Fox, The Viaduct

The home of live sport in the Auckland Viaduct, The Fox will be showing all the action as the mighty All Blacks take on the likes of Australia, South Africa and Argentina this rugby season.

The Kingslander, Kingsland

Auckland’s The Kingslander is the place to be for all Eden Park rugby tests – even if you do have tickets to the game, you’ll want to warm up here before kick-off. Get in early to avoid a long queue.

More of the best Auckland bars and pubs for watching the All Blacks.

Smitty’s Sports Bar & Grill, Whitianga

Smitty’s Sports Bar & Grill in wonderful Whitianga has a fine pedigree as a former finalist in the Hospitality Industry of New Zealand’s best sports bar awards – so you know it’s got to be good. It boasts two large screens and TAB facilities on site.

Homebase Sports Bar, Hamilton

With eight screens and five sports channels, Homebase isn’t solely dedicated to rugby (hence the name) but they do love the All Blacks as much as the next Kiwi sports bar.

Zone Sports Bar, Hamilton

Custom designed with the sports-mad Kiwi in mind, Zone at SkyCity Hamilton is a premier sports bar with plasma TVs and five large screens – so you won’t miss any of the action.

World’s End Sports Bar, Tauranga

We all know it’s like the world is ending when the All Blacks lose a test, so it would be apt to watch one here at World's End Sports Bar in Tauranga. Not that we ever expect them to lose…

Bluewater Sports Café, Napier

A sports bar like no other in Napier, the Bluewater Sports Café screens all major boxing bouts as well as Super Rugby and every match the All Blacks are involved in.

Four Kings, Wellington

Four Kings is the self-described best sports bar in New Zealand. It’s definitely up there, with more than 70 plasma and LCD screens. Catch all the All Black action live and loud as well as the rugby league, football and every other major sport of note.

Arizona, Wellington

Get Tex-Mex’d at Arizona and watch some live sport in the process. This Wellington bar and restaurant will be showing all the All Blacks matches as well as NRL, NBA, NFL, EPL and just about any other sporting acronym you can think of.

The Running Bull, Christchurch

Rugby, great beer and top-quality pub grub; what more could you ask for? The Running Bull in Christchurch shows all the international rugby action on its big screen, with daily drink and food specials to sweeten the experience.

Fox & Ferret, Christchurch

The Fox & Ferret in Riccarton and The Palms are both great spots for watching live All Black rugby action. The food is good and the atmosphere is lively. Stick around after the game and bust a move on the dance floor.

Pog Mahones, Queenstown

The home of live sport in Queenstown, Pog Mahones is a sweet as Irish pub that’ll be screening all the All Blacks matches as well as other major international rugby matches of note.

The Terrace Sports Bar, Dunedin

With allegedly the largest TV screen in Dunedin – we didn’t have a tape measure handy to test that claim – The Terrace Sports Bar is the perfect place to watch an All Blacks test. That is unless you’ve got tickets to see it at Forsyth Barr Stadium, of course.
