Inspired by all aspects of French life, Elizabeth and Mike Lind launched this classic French-style shop and deli back in 1997 – a lifetime ago in the world of restaurants and retail.
La Cigale, meaning “circada” – a sound associated with Provence in the summer, boasts an authentic French experience, sourcing most of its products directly from there. The deli sells French cheeses, tapenades and cornichons, olives and French pates; the bistro serves up exquisite French food for lunch and dinner.
This creperie and café is about as cute as it gets, with red gingham tablecloths and wood panelling complementing the wonderful French food.
A little more relaxed, a little less intimidating than other French restaurants in Auckland, Le Garde-manger nevertheless serves up an extensive menu of delectable French cuisine and wine. You will feel as though you’ve stumbled upon a little piece of Paris on Queen Street.
You’ve got to hand it to the French – they’re pretty much number one when it comes to patisseries, pastries and bread.
Paris-Berlin Organic Bakery produces traditional French- and German-style bread, pastries and cakes, without such nasty things as additives and preservatives. It’s the best place to go in Auckland for crusty baguettes, seeded loaves and sweet French baked-goods.
The bakery’s goods can also be found in organic shops around the city, if its store in Ellerslie is too far out of your way.
