






The Diwali Taste on a Plate food challenge has kicked off in Auckland with 15 Indian restaurants all vying for the title of tastiest dish.
Clooney, Eight Point Two and Wine Chambers are among the big-name restaurants that have until 13 November 2012 to create a unique vegetarian dish and convince diners that theirs is the tastiest in Auckland.
To sweeten the pot, by eating at any of the 15 restaurants participating restaurants diners will have the chance to win one of five $100 restaurant vouchers if they submit their details at the Diwali Taste on a Plate website.
The initiative is being run in partnership between the Restaurant Association of New Zealand, Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and the Auckland Diwali Festival.
Among the list of other restaurants to be chosen to compete in the Diwali Food Challenge is Oh Calcutta in Parnell and Number 5 in Grafton, Vinnies, Monsoon Poon and Hectors Restaurant at The Heritage Auckland.
Restaurant Association chief executive Marisa Bidios said: “The Indian and non-Indian restaurants we approached have embraced the challenge and are relishing the chance to create their unique and delicious Diwali dishes.”
ATEED acting general manager Jennah Wootten added: “We live in an era of food innovation and this is an innovative food challenge to mark one of Auckland’s signature cultural events.”
