Wellington on a Plate 2012

Pay attention foodies! Visa Wellington on a Plate, the capital’s annual celebration of its unique and vibrant culinary culture, will be held from the 10th to 26th August this year.

Last year’s festival boasted more than 80 different events and Visa Wellington on a Plate 2012 promises to be even bigger and better. There really will be something to suit every taste and culinary inclination.

The highly anticipated main event of the festival is DINE Wellington, a fortnight-long programme of lunchtime specials and set menu deals from some of the city’s finest eateries.

Visa Wellington on a Plate kicks off in grand style with the Fisher & Paykel MasterClass from 10th to 11th of August. Don’t miss your opportunity to learn tips, tricks and techniques from New Zealand’s most distinguished chefs.

Fans of the amber nectar will be their in their element at Beervana from 17th to 18th August, where Wellington’s many boutique brewers will show you just why the city has been proclaimed New Zealand’s craft beer capital.

Chocoholics should set aside the 24th to 26th of August for the popular New Zealand Chocolate Festival, a tribute to the glory of chocolate in all its forms and varieties.

As in previous years the festival incorporates a number of competitions.

Leading Wellington restaurants will compete to make the city’s best burger in the Burger Wellington competition.

Some of the mouth watering flavour combinations produced last year included the Spanish-style “Burger Catalonia” from Osteria del Toro and the venison and portabello mushroom “Fawn & Fungi” from Logan Brown There will also be a Wellington Bake-Off competition, with prizes awarded for the best baking club and best individual baker.

For further festival details and information on the competitions, keep an eye on the Wellington on a Plate website. Tickets may be purchased through the event website closer to the festival date.
