Celebrate HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in style with a special afternoon tea fit for a queen at the Corogate Café, an outpost of Englishness at the gateway to the Coromandel.
From mid-May until the end of June 2012, the Corogate Cafe is hosting afternoon teas to celebrate this historic occasion.
You can expect all the usual things you would associate with this genteel ritual: a selection of the choicest teas and infusions, a selection of finger sandwiches and savouries and, of course, dainty cakes on tiered trays.
Diamond Jubilee afternoon teas at the Corogate Café add an extra dimension of magnificence to this quintessentially English institution.
Every detail has been contrived so that you can really get into the spirit of the occasion.
The tablecloth is an exact replica of the one used by Queen Victoria (Britain’s longest serving monarch to date with a reign which began in 1819 and ended in 1901) and which the Queen Elizabeth still uses.
You can watch a recording of a young Queen Elizabeth at her 1953 coronation, as well as clips of royal ceremonies, including the recent wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Naturally, dress code is important at a royal afternoon tea. All attendees are requested to dress to impress: furs, hats and jewellery for ladies and top hat and tails for men.
The Corogate Café hosts an exhibition of more than 3,000 items of British Royal family memorabilia dating from 1836. It includes glassware, china, linen, jewellery, statues and limited edition collectibles.
If you’re a fan of the Royal Family, an Anglophile or a lover of traditional afternoon teas, make sure you get along to one of these events.
Tickets: Contact Corogate Café to book your place at a Diamond Jubilee royal afternoon tea.
Cost: $35 per group or family
When: 14th May to 30th June 2012
