If there’s one thing in Auckland that you’re sure to find, it’s an Indian restaurant. But how do you pick the good from the bad and the ugly? Well, luckily you don’t – that’s our job!
So we trawled the streets of our fine capital city and picked the hottest of the hot that’ll be sure to tempt, tease and tantalise your tastebuds!
Oh Calcutta
Oh Calcutta… oh so good! Located in Parnell, many have referred to Oh Calcutta as the best Indian restaurant in New Zealand. And, after a couple of visits, I have to say I think I agree! Everything from the intimate setting to the huge choice on the menu makes eating here an enjoyable experience. If you have a group of four, try their set menu for $35 a head and don’t forget, you can bring your own wine too!
Chand Indian Restaurant
Chand makes our list not only for the food but also for the ambiance. The lighting is just right, the tables are just far enough apparent and the service is frequent enough without being intrusive – to borrow from the words of Goldilocks… everything was just right! With most mains under $20 it’s not going to cost you an arm and a leg for a good meal either. We give this 10 chilli’s out of 10!
Shahi Indian Experience
Seldom do chain restaurants make our list of top places to eat but we have to admit, Shahi is great if you want quick, tasty inexpensive Indian food. With restaurants in three locations throughout Auckland, there’s bound to be one close enough to you. Or, if you cant be bothered leaving the couch – just phone them up and get them to deliver!
Bolliwood Café Bar & Restaurant
Located in one of Auckland’s most lively suburbs, Bolliwood Café Bar & Restaurant is one of the cities top notch Indian eateries. With dine in or take out options, it suits any occasion. Check out their lunch specials where you can get any curry, bread and a drink for only $10!
Saffron Indian Restaurant
Previously the winner of Metro’s Best Indian Restaurant, Saffron dishes out some of the most authentic cuisine this side of the Indian Ocean! For something different, try their weekend buffet lunch – yum!
