The ‘girly night’ is an age old ritual that every female should partake in at least every month or two! But choosing a venue that will suit everyone is always the hardest part. If you ask us, there’s no better way to catch up with friends and have a gossip than over some good food and good wine and, lets face it, Auckland’s not short of venues that boast either of those things!
Our tip for tapas is to order lots of plates between the group, that way you get to try a little bit of everything from the menu! Check out Bonita on Ponsonby Road for some Spanish fun – the tapas is amazing and the Sangria is, well, lets just say it tastes like ‘more’! Agents & Merchants on Customs Street is also great for a little more refined girly night out. There wine list is longer than my credit card statement (i.e huge!) and their food is to die for!
Let’s face it; get a group of girls and a few drinks together and there’s bound to be some spicy gossip flying around! So why not add some spicy food into the mix while you’re at it. Oh Calcutta in Parnell is great for groups and there food is oh so good. They do set menus for four people or more where you’ll get a whole heap of food for only $35 per head. Oh, it’s BYO too which is always a good thing! Joy Bong Thai on K’Rd is also great for a catch up, no matter what the time. They do a lunch menu where you can grab a noodle box and a drink for only $10 or, go with your girlies in the evening and try one of their interesting Thai cocktails. Or, if you’re more of a home bird, why not get the wine in and invite your besties around to yours. There are heaps of great Indian restaurants throughout Auckland that also have take-away menus – meaning you won’t have to go through the drama that is finding something to wear for a night on the town.
No girly night would be complete without a few… or a few too many… cocktails! The Greenroom on Quay St is perfect for a tipple before dinner (their Mojito’s are amazing!), Thai Chilli – also on Quay St – provides a comfortable atmosphere, great food and an even better drinks menu and Iguacu in Parnell is a must for any girly night involving some alcoholic concoctions!
Often the best end to a good girly night is going somewhere that you can have a bit of a boogie. There are lots of bars, and even restaurants, around Auckland that offer great live music and Danny Doolan's in the Viaduct is no exception to this. Try to avoid on a Friday or Saturday night if you’re not a fan of fighting to get to the bar though. Acacia Restaurant & Garden Bar is another great place for live music and is often referred to as Ellerslie’s best kept secret garden. It’s great on a Friday night when you can get half-price cocktails, enjoy their yummy seafood buffet and relax to some tunes. Great for catching up with friends!
