Places to eat near Eden Park

One of the biggest sporting events to hit New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup 2011 is set to be full to the brim with action packed excitement! If you are lucky enough to have tickets to watch a live game at Auckland’s Eden Park, we’ve found a selection of restaurants nearby so you can grab a bite to eat before or after the match.

Kingsland
Just around the corner from Eden Park Stadium, the popular New North Road in Kingsland is home to many quality restaurants. 

Sake Bar 601
601 New North Road Kingsland
The dining experience at popular Sake Bar 601 is very pleasant. The restaurant is small, elegant and quirky. The menu is on the short side, but the food is delightful. There is a traditional Japanese range of sushi, sashimi and tempura, plus steak, chicken, market fish, lamb and tofu steak, all prepared as you wish. Nominated by Auckland’s Metro Magazine 2010 & 2011 – Top 50 Restaurants. Bookings recommended.

Canton Cafe

There is a limited menu but the range of delicious cuisine is expertly prepared and there is a brilliant wine menu to select from. Great for small groups or a cosy meal for two. Hong Thai Restaurant

Quiet and unpretentious, Hong Thai Restaurant nearby to Winehot is the perfect spot for groups. With three different dining areas, the restaurant is large and somewhat comforting. The service is delivered to an impeccable Thai standard with equally fantastic authentic cuisine served in large portions for an excellent price. Bookings recommended.

Taiko Japanese Restaurant & Bar

This restaurant is a hidden gem, situated just behind Gt Nth Rd by the train station. The menu is large with an equally big array of authentic cuisine to suit. Great for groups, the atmosphere is awesome, and is perfect for sitting for hours sharing tapas-style Japanese. Highly recommended and bookings essential.

The charming Mt Eden village is just a short taxi ride from Eden park stadium and offers a plethora of dining options to suit everyone.

Bowmans Restaurant
597 Mount Eden Road, Mt Eden
A former winner as one of Auckland’s best restaurants, Bowmans offers European cuisine in an upmarket environment. The presentation of its meals is exquisite, but the ambience remains unpretentious and relaxed. Great for groups, or for those celebrating a win! Bookings recommended.

Hees Garden Seafood Restaurant
599 Mount Eden Road, Mt Eden
This restaurant is a bit of an Auckland institution which has been serving up some of the best Chinese food in Auckland for more than 30 years. Popular with locals, Hees provides traditional Cantonese Chinese cuisine with a large menu including Yum Char. A large restaurant, it’s great for groups and has plenty of nearby parking. The Mulberry

A brilliant dining experience, The Mulberry call themselves a ‘gastro bar’ but rest assured they are far from any old run of the mill bar who happens to serve food. The formal yet comfortable dining room offers an array of European cuisine presented in a modern and unique style. With a cosy open fire and plenty of table space it’s perfect for groups of all sizes. Bookings recommended.

Molten Restaurant 
422 Mount Eden Road, Mt Eden
This charming bistro is small and intimate but is one of the little gems in Mt Eden village. 
Nominated in the 2011 Metro Magazine Top 50 Restaurants, it offers New Zealand cuisine and dishes it up in a sophisticated manner with outstanding service. Recommended for small groups or couples, Molten also features a separate private dining room which has seating for up to 20 people, but bookings are highly recommended.

Eden Cloak Room
476 Mount Eden Road, Mt Eden
They say good things come in small packages and this bar-come-bistro most certainly gives testament to that. Perfect to meet for a pre-match beer in their front courtyard, Eden Cloak Room is also a great place to head for a meal after a game. With large generous food servings they certainly make up for the size of the bistro, and there is a great selection of offerings on the menu. Suits small groups or couples, and table bookings highly recommended.

Apadana Restaurant & Bar
