Best For Cocktails

When you’re out on the town, a cocktail can be a girl’s best friend (even if they’re her worst nightmare the morning after!). So here are the best places in Auckland if you’re crazy about Cosmo’s, mad about Mojito’s or a little loopy for Long Island Ice Teas!

The Greenroom on Prince’s Wharf bring Cuba to Auckland in the form of a rum-based drink! The barmen there are skilled in the art of the Mojito so it’s definitely worth a visit if the mint drink is your thing!

Lime on Ponsonby Road may be small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in great tasting Cosmopolitans! Grab your girlies and give you’re night a touch of ‘Sex and the City’ sophistication!

Long Island Ice Teas
There is no doubt that the best place in Auckland to grab a Long Island Ice Tea is Rakinos Café on High Street. A word of warning though, they don’t skimp on the alcohol when making these, so pace yourself! Also, try their Kiwi twist on the Long Island Ice Tea where they replace the coke with Red Bull – and they’ve aptly named it the ‘North Island Ice Tea’

Whatever flavour you fancy in your Daiquiri, you’ll get it just the way you like it at Khuja Lounge. Located on the corner of K’Rd and Queen St. Khuja is the good times boogie club that’ll get your night off to a great start… or end it on a high!

This is the most popular tequila-based cocktail and is said to have originated in Mexico. However, it’s made it’s way to Auckland with a bang and there’s no better place to sip away on one than in Bellini’s Bar in the Hilton Hotel. With three types on the menu to choose from (or to work your way through), you won’t be disappointed!

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a James Bond, or one of his girls, then get down to Suite, winner of Metro Magazine’s ‘Best Cocktail’ award and try their ‘Modern Martini’. With lashings of gin, dry vermouth, cointreau and of course an olive, a few of these will more than likely have you leaving the bar shaken and stirred!

There’s nothing like a Manhattan or two to bring a taste of The Big Apple to our little city. And the best place to get the best Manhattan… why lolabar on Ponsonby Road of course! Sit back and sip away while enjoying the laid back atmosphere and great live music.

Pina Coladas
This cocktail will make even the dullest day that little bit more tropical and where better to enjoy one than with a view of the harbour. Bungalow 8 in the Viaduct does the best Pina Coladas we’ve tasted with a perfect blend of Malibu, Bacardi, Pineapple Juice and fresh cream – yum!

Black Russian
With vodka, Kahlua Coffee Liquer and Cola, this is a cocktail that’ll definitely get your pulse racing. Head down to The Waterfront Café in the Viaduct for one that’ll give you a real wake up call!

Bloody Mary
If you’ve been out the night before and sampled any of the above cocktails then the best cure you can get the next morning will come in the form of a good Bloody Mary. The Longroom in Ponsonby are now not only open for breakfast but also have an awesome ‘Breakfast Cocktail’ menu. Their Bloody Mary is sure to cure what ails you – great for a self-inflicted sore head!
