Ah, the celebrity, we say we don’t care what they’re doing but secretly we’re addicted to finding out what they’re up to, where they eat and where they drink. These bars and restaurants fill the social pages of our newspapers and are the hangout for ‘anyone who’s anyone’… but where exactly in Auckland are they?
Well, the Viaduct is always a good place to start for a bit of star spotting and Pasha in particular is a regular haunt for these ‘A-listers’. Located in Princes Wharf, this Middle Eastern style bar is renowned for it’s yummy cocktails, private areas and partying until the wee hours of the morning. Once a year, they join forces with neighbouring bars Euro and the Greenroom to host the ‘Aqualine’ party which sees many a celeb (and many not-so-celebs) come out to play.
If you’re down Ponsonby way and have a hunger to see some well-known faces then pop into SPQR for one of the best pizzas in Auckland and keep an eye out for and celebs that might be getting a slice in too!
The Longroom, also in Ponsonby, has been known to play home to a view of New Zealand’s A-listers too. Their menu is short, to-the-point and delicious and their cocktail menu makes you forget that one that’s one too many! They’re now open for breakfast too so keep an eye out for any celebs that are there looking for a cure for the night before!
Heading further south, Eden Cloak Room is the place to be for any music groupie. They regularly hold open mic nights that have been known to attract many a famous musician, so keep an ear to the ground and you could be singing along with your favourite artist in their cosy surroundings.
You can’t beat a good meal with a side order of celebrity! And if the food in Oh Calcutta doesn’t spice up your night then the chance of spotting one of their star-studded regulars will. It’s been known to have been frequented by the likes of Simply Red, Billy Connolly and Joe Cocker – and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us too!
Hang out in Auckland’s city centre long enough and you’re bound to spot a few familiar faces. Some places where celebs dare to be seen include Sails Restaurant – great food and great views make for happy A-listers, Corner Bar – the biggest little bar in town and Mikano Restaurant & Bar – again with great views.
