You can’t beat a good birthday meal out with mates and there are tonnes of places in Auckland to do just that. Not all restaurants cater for (or can handle) large groups though so it’s best to either research the place before you book or phone ahead and ask them.
Tony’s Restaurant and Bar in Henderson is great for a special occasion like a birthday. They can cater for smaller groups or parties of up to 150 (if you’re really popular!) and what’s more, the food is top notch! One thing to remember though, they are predominantly a steak restaurant, which is why the steak is top class; however this may not suit any veggies that you’re bringing along.
If you fancy a little bit of everything for your birthday dinner then La Zeppa is the place for you. Specialising in Tapas, they can cater for large groups and also offer a $30 or $40 set menu. The food is yummy, the bar is comfortable and the atmosphere is great – you’ll definitely have a very happy birthday here.
Take your birthday bash to new heights and try Fortuna Buffet Restaurant at Sky City. They can cater for more friends than you could drum up in a year and even have a special indoor balcony reserved especially for functions. They also do tailored menus for larger groups so your wish will be their command!
Give your special day a touch of the je ne sais quoi and have your birthday meal at St. Tropez in Parnell. They have a private party space that can cater for up to sixty people and set menus from $55 to $75 per person. What’s more, it’s BYO so you can celebrate with your favourite bottle of vino and save a few dollars on the bill too!
Banque Bistro in Remuera have not one but two separate private dining areas for you to choose from depending on how many people you plan to have at your function. The upstairs dining area is completely private and can seat up to 30 guests. The Back Bar area can also be closed off for private dining and comes complete with it’s own bar – this can seat up to 50 guests. Set menus and canapé options are available for both areas.
It may be your birthday but you’re going to want to please everyone. So, if you have some fussy eaters in your group why not opt for a buffet restaurant for your party. SBF Brasserie at the Langham Hotel offers a hot buffet dinner from $59 per person served in a comfortable, informal atmosphere. Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ has a great party feel to it and will add something unique to your birthday dinner. With set menus that are all you can eat, make sure you go with an empty stomach!
For that extra something special, why not visit one of Auckland’s wineries and have your birthday bash amongst the vines. Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant has a private dining room for parties of 20 or more complete with it’s own private terrace – and all this at no extra charge to your meal. Enjoy the delicious food and even have your very own DJ if you like.
