Christchurch has been ravaged by the September earthquake, but it doesn't mean to say it’s not business as usual for many of the city’s cafes. Now they need your support more than ever. Here are some of our picks from Christchurch’s cafes.
The very cool Lotus Heart Cafe offers the best vegetarian food around. They offer great low fat options, tasty vegetarian food, healthy salads and smoothies. Plus their coffee is fair traded and organic.
At Bishopdale’s Reality Bites Café you can enjoy a tempting breakfast to help get you through the day; try their pancakes, bagels or granola. If you deserve a little treat (and let’s face it, who doesn’t) their baked goods are good too – especially the chocolate brownies.
The Boatshed Cafe is a great place for breakfast, brunch or to enjoy a coffee. One of Christchurch’s historic places, the Antigua Boat Sheds are 125 years old.
Ris’tretto Espresso takes its coffee very seriously. Walk through the door and the delicious smell of freshly roasted coffee welcomes you. Ris’tretto uses fair trade organic coffee which is freshly roasted with every cup. Ris’tretto Espresso's food is also freshly made every day and ranges from classic quiche to scrummy designer cakes.
Good coffee is what Vic’s Cafe does so well. Its layout is uniquely open plan with a strong European influence. So come for breakfast or lunch – make sure you try their soup of the day which is highly recommended. Vic's also run an organic market on Saturday mornings which you can check out.
