Just a stone’s throw away from Parnell, one of Auckland’s most sylish suburbs is, well, another one of Auckland’s most stylish suburbs! Newmarket is a shopping mecca but that’s not where the fun ends for it – it can hold it’s own in the wining and dining department too.
Nuffield Street in Newmarket is becoming the place to see, and be seen, in Auckland. There you will find Tasca, a Spanish inspired restaurant serving wonderful pizza, pasta and tapas. The décor takes on a slightly Moroccan theme and their wine list has some of the best (and my favourite) Spanish wines – try the Luis Canas Rioja, yum!
Another cool spot to check out is Mecca Cafe Newmarket. This is on the corner of Nuffied and Remuera Road and is in the Mercury Energy building. Sit and watch the street action from an elevated position whilst enjoying a meal or drink. Their coffee is great too!
For a taste of all things Persian, get down to the Turkish Café on Broadway. With Turkish mains like Pirzolah and Iskender and a drinks menu as long as your arm, you definitely won’t be disappointed!
Newmarket is said to be Auckland’s shopping capital so if you’re planning a retail therapy day there are plenty of quaint cafes to get you off to a good start and to give you a little break in-between too. Try Safron Cafe for a taste of metiterranean cuisine, but make sure you book first because it gets busy! Stop for a coffee in Sierra and, once you’ve cleared out all the stores, go for a well deserved pint in Nuffield Street Trading Co for a pint of Macs ale.
