The celebrity – we say we don’t care what they’re doing but secretly we’re addicted to finding out what they’re up to and where they eat and drink. So who exactly is a celebrity? Maybe they’re a sports star, musician, fashion designer, model or TV personality. Or maybe it’s someone who features in the social pages of glossy magazines and newspapers. Regardless of who we consider to be a NZ celebrity have you ever wondered where exactly in Auckland they go?
If you were in Ponsonby you could pop into SPQR for some celeb spotting and while you’re there why not get some of the best pizza in Auckland.
The Longroom, also in Ponsonby, is another well known celebrity haunt. Their menu is short, to-the-point and delicious. The cocktail menu makes you forget that last cocktail was one too many! In the evening we recommend you get there early to avoid the long queue. They’re now open for breakfast too – so keep an eye out for any celebs that are there looking for a cure for the night before.
Heading further south, Eden Cloak Room is the place to be for any music groupie. They regularly hold open mic nights that have been known to attract many a famous musician, so keep an ear to the ground and you could be singing along with your favourite artist in their cosy surroundings.
You can’t beat a good meal with a side order of celebrity! And if the food at Oh Calcutta doesn’t spice up your night then the chance of spotting one of their star-studded regulars will. Located in trendy Parnell, it’s been known to have been frequented by the likes of Simply Red, Billy Connolly and Joe Cocker – and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us too!
If you make it down to the Viaduct and its past midnight another great pick is Spybar. Although it often has a members only policy you can try your luck with the doorman and they might just let you in. But make sure you are dressed to impress! Once down the stairs be sure to try one of their amazing cocktails before you bust a move to the latest house music on the dance floor. This is the place to be seen and is a popular celebrity hangout.
Some other places where celebs dare to be seen include Sails Restaurant – great food and great views make for happy celebs, Corner Bar – the biggest little bar in town and Mikano Restaurant & Bar – again with great views.
So if you’re in Auckland long enough you’re bound to spot a few familiar faces. We can’t guarantee you’ll spot a celebrity but it’s still fun trying!
