Our Pick: The Bunker – Queenstown

Once one of Queenstown’s best kept secrets its now an inner city hotspot. The Bunker is one of the resort town’s top places to have meal in style or grab a drink.

Hidden away down a back alley in the centre of Queenstown behind a rustic old wooden door, it offers a discreet and intimate fine dining, restaurant, cocktail bar and private dining room. It really could be on par with some of the world’s best.

Wowing locals and tourists alike for over ten years, a few hours spent at The Bunker is certainly an experience not to be missed. The restaurant is intimate, with purposefully dim lighting and old school music to create an almost private club atmosphere.

The ever-changing menu focuses on locally sourced produce with a European flavour, expertly crafted by The Bunker’s Head Chef, Gwen Harvie. A local, Gwen trained in both New Zealand and Europe, ultimately becoming Sous Chef at famous London Michelin Star restaurant Aubergine. Her passion is making incredible cuisine using the abundance of quality produce available nearby, and the menu changes seasonally to stay fresh and innovative.

Upstairs you’ll find The Cocktail Bar, an almost secret space that was converted a few years ago into a cosy and intimate after hours lounge bar, serving top shelf spirits, premium cocktails and a large range of wines and beers, in front of a roaring open fire.

On the weekends you may pop in to find a local DJ spinning till the early hours, making for one seriously cool night out.
